Gough Analytical Sponsorship of The Northland Emergency Services Trust
Gough Analytical are proud to sponsor the NEST helicopters.
The Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST) is a charitable trust established to provide a dedicated emergency rescue helicopter service for the people of Northland and wider areas of New Zealand. They know about Northland’s unsealed roads, the changeable weather and the fact that people live over a wide-spread area that’s often difficult to access quickly by road. They are also aware of the increased risk of death and serious injury caused when medical treatment is delayed – all of which makes Northland’s Rescue Helicopter service so essential.
NEST has gone from a single helicopter operation run during the summer months to a 24-hour service manned by a team of skilled pilots and paramedics. The fleet has increased over time to cope with burgeoning rescue demands - NEST now operates three Sikorsky S-76 helicopters, which are the fastest and longest range helicopters in the country.
The Northland Rescue Helicopters are iconic in the Northland region – a symbol of safety and operational excellence. In 2017 they carried over 900 patients. The team is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week – even on Christmas day. Flights range from patient transfers, emergency response on local roads, farms and beaches, and specialist at-sea rescues for which only NEST’s Sikorsky helicopters have the capabilities to assist. The summer period remains NEST’s busiest period, as people flock to Northland’s secluded beaches (which are often in isolated locations). A typical day at NEST’s headquarters involves everything from carrying out time sensitive rescues, transferring patients between hospitals, to reviewing the performance of the machines and engaging with the local community.
